A late goal for the #1 Notre Dame put the Fighting Irish over Boston College 1-0. The victory improves Notre Dame to a 15-0-0 mark on the season. In BIG EAST action, the Fighting Irish lift their record to 8-0-0. The defeat drops the Eagles to 10-5-0 and 5-3-0 in the conference. BC's seven game winning streak is snapped by the loss to the top-ranked Irish.
BC started the season 0-2-0 in league matches, but then went on a 5-0-0 run. This conference loss marks BC's first since September 19th.
The Notre Dame tally came late in the game. The Eagle defense contained the volatile Irish offense into the 80th minute. However, at the 79:06 mark, Jen Buczkowski scored on the Irish's 14th shot on the game.
This goal was Buczkowski's sixth of the season. She was assisted by Ashley Jones and Kim Lorenzen.
The match was no doubt a physical one, as BC committed 17 fouls. Notre Dame tallied 11 fouls on the evening.
Notre Dame keeper Erica Bohn made one save in the winning effort for her 15th win of 2004. Taylor made four saves in the loss for Boston College.
BC will travel back to the Newton Campus Field this Tuesday to take on Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. This contest will open a three-game homestand as the Eagles will play BIG EAST members St. John's and Syracuse next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
