Laina Ceddia broke a scoreless stalemate with a tally in the 80th minute of play. The Eagles come away with their fourth win in so many chances and lift their record to 7-4-0 overall. BC eclipsed the .500 mark in the league, moving to 3-2-0 in conference action. Seton Hall falls to 6-3-2 and 1-2-0 in BIG EAST play.
The two teams played 79 minutes of deadlock soccer, but Boston College began to build momentum as the second half progressed. Seton Hall had its chances, but a big save by junior goalkeeper Kate Taylor kept the Pirates out of net.
Ceddia finally put the Eagles on the board with a little over ten minutes remaining. Freshman Tara Luciani, who notched BC's gamewinner against UCONN in 2OT last Wednesday, broke free and passed to a cutting Ceddia. The senior midfielder received the pass and launched a left-footed shot into the far corner of the net. Pirate goalkeeper Amanda Becker made an attempt to save the ball, but her efforts proved to be in vain as the ball found the netting.
Freshman pair Luciani and Nicole Reyes both had breakaway opportunities earlier on in the game. Reyes, in the first half, got free, but her shot was blocked by Becker who came out of net to challenge her bid. Luciani, early in the second half, put an uncontested shot off of the left post. The game remained scoreless until Ceddia scored in the final minutes.
For the game, Boston College out-shot Seton Hall 10-7 and held a 5-1 edge for shots on goal.
BC's road trip continues in New Jersey as they travel to Rutgers to play the Scarlet Knights on Sunday at 11 a.m. The game stats can be viewed live on bceagles.com through Live Gametracker, accessible on the Women's Soccer "2004 Schedule" page.
