
Men's Tennis Beats Colgate, 5-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After dropping its opening match at Brown, the Boston College men's tennis team responded winning five of six singles matches and one of three doubles competitions to beat Colgate, 5-2, Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The win marked the first dual-match victory for the Eagles under first-year Head Coach Scott Wilkins.
In singles play, sophomore Kiernan Laughlin (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) defeated former high school teammate Justin Heims in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Seniors Justin Slattery (Hampton, N.H.) and Paul Colahan (Beverly, Mass.) each dropped the opening set but went on to win the next two helping the Eagles earn the victory. Junior Chris McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) defeated Eric Saccullo, 6-3, 6-4, and junior Derrick Chou (Great Neck, N.Y.) earned his second victory in as many days, beating Peter Oman, 6-3, 6-3.
The Eagles' No. 1 doubles team of Slattery and McCoy picked up the victory in doubles competition, defeating Reed Hagmann and Sacullo, 8-6.
Boston College is back in action Saturday, Feb. 7 when the host St. Bonaventure at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The Eagles take the court at 11:00 a.m.
