Track And Field Teams Finish Second At UNH Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. - The Boston College men's track and field team finished second while the women's team finished with 197 points, one behind meet-winner New Hampshire competing at the UNH Invitational held Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Paul Sweet Oval in Durham, N.H.
The men's team was paced by first-place performances from junior Trevor Rozier-Byrd (Freehold, N.J.), who ran a 2:34.76 1,000-meter run, senior Shawn Wallace (Wakefield, Mass.), who won the 1,500-meter run turning in a time of 4:05.41, and junior Ashley Jefferson (Newton, Mass.), who leaped 21'00.50" to win the long jump.
The men's 4x800-meter relay squad also placed first to pace the Eagles.
On the women's side, Boston College placed 10 different competitors in first place out of 18 events scored. Freshman Kasey Hill (Montgomery Centre, Vt.) ran the second fastest time (8.32) in recent BC history to win the 55-meter hurdles and junior Saki Sugano (Bellevue, Wash.) cleared 10'11.75" to win the pole vault and tie her for third all-time at BC.
Also taking first in their respective events were freshmen Kathleen Smyth (Salt Lake City, Utah), Julie Regan (Marblehead, Mass.) and Lauren Reliford (Alexandria, Va.), sophomore Jessica Fazekas (Closter, N.J.), junior Katina McCrory (Washington, DC) and seniors Erin Maloney (Scranton, Pa.) and Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.).
The Eagles dominated the middle distance events with Smyth capturing the 400-meter run in a time of 1:01.31, while Maloney was victorious in the 800-meter run and Smith won 1,500-meter run.
In jumps events, Regan cleared 5'03.00" to win the high jump, McCrory leaped 16'01.75" to earn the top spot in the long jump and Reliford leaped 35'10.50" to win the triple jump.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team also captured first place beating runner-up New Hampshire by over 20 seconds.
