Ski Teams Kick Off Season At UMass Carnival

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's and women's ski teams opened up competition this weekend with strong performances at the UMass Carnival Jan. 17-18 at Berkshire East in Charlemont, Mass. On its way to a fourth-place overall performance, the women's team finished fourth in the giant slalom and placed fifth in slalom racing.
Freshman Courtney Culane (Stratton, Vt.) was the top Eagles' performer placing seventh in the slalom while classmate Kara Hoisington (Carrabasset Valley, Maine) led BC finishing eighth in the giant slalom.
On the men's side, seniors Dave Giulietti (Farmington, Conn.) and Seth Therrien (Yakima, Wash.) led the Eagles with top-15 performances in slalom and giant slalom competition. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Greg Avallon (Beverly, Mass.) placed tenth on both races. Therrien, Avallon, Giulietti and freshman Thatcher Merrill (Wilton, N.H.) swept places nine through twelve in giant slalom racing.
The ski teams are back in action next weekend at the Plymouth State Carnival in Waterville, N.H.
