Washington, D.C. - The 22nd-ranked Boston College women's soccer team remained undefeated, beating Virginia Commonwealth University today in overtime to win the Eurosport Hoya Classic, hosted by Georgetown. With the 3-2 victory, BC improves to 4-0 on the season.
Things looked bleak for the Eagles at the outset, as VCU jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead and Boston College was unable to convert on a scoring opportunity. The Eagles began to claw back in the second half as senior Sarah Rahko took a feed from classmate Rebecca Brooke and found the back of the net to cut the VCU lead to 2-1. It looked as though that would be all the offense BC could muster, but with just 29 seconds remaining in regulation, freshman Mary Schneck scored the unassisted equalizer to send the match into an extra frame. At 101:29 of the match, Rahko struck again, netting the game-winner on a pass from fellow senior Beth Totman.
The Eagles were 2-0 on the weekend, having beaten host Georgetown on Friday, and took home first place honors for the four-team tournament. Schneck was selected as the tournament's defensive MVP, while Totman took home offensive MVP honors. Rahko and sophomore goalkeeper Kate Taylor were also named to the All-Tournament team.
The Eagles will return home this Friday when they square off against Quinnipiac on Newton Campus Field. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
