Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team fell to Michigan today by a score of 5-3 at Alumni Stadium. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 2-2 on the season, while the Wolverines up their record to 2-2.
Michigan came out strong in the early going, with All-American April Fronzoni scoring three goals in the first twenty minutes of the game. The Eagles quickly rallied back, though. Sophomore Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.) got the Eagles on the board with 12:23 remaining in the first when she scored off a feed from classmate Danielle Incropera (Chelmsford, Mass.). Less than a minute later, the Eagles struck again as senior Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.) put an unassisted goal past Michigan goalkeeper Molly Maloney to bring BC within a 3-2 margin going into halftime.
Michigan opened the second half scoring with 27:19 remaining when Jessica Blake collected a rebound and found the back of the goal. BC was not going away, though. Six minutes later, senior Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took a pass from Drozd and slipped it past Maloney to bring the Eagles back within a goal at 4-3. Still, Fronzoni sealed the win for the Wolverines when she scored her fourth goal of the game, sliding an unassisted goal past BC keeper Jillian Savoy to give Michigan the 5-3 victory.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to take on the Boston University Terriers. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
