Washington, D.C. - The Boston College women's soccer team defeated Georgetown in their opening match in the Eurosport Hoya Classic on Georgetown's North Kehoe Field September 5. With the win, Boston College improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Hoyas fall to 0-2.
After 36 minutes of scoreless play, the Eagles broke through the Hoya defense when junior midfielder Laina Ceddia picked up a bobbled ball in front of the Georgetown goal for BC's first score. The Hoyas got on the board in the second half, when Casey McCann found Shara McNeill, who slipped a shot past Boston College goalkeeper Kate Taylor to bring the Hoyas to within a goal of tying the match.
Five minutes later, Totman scored her second goal of the game on an assist from sophomore Katie McGregor, to bring the score to 3-1. Boston College retained the two-goal lead for the remainder of the contest.
Georgetown goalkeeper Louisa Butler posted 9 saves, including 6 in the first half, while Taylor posted 3 in each period for the Eagles. Boston College out-shot the Hoyas 21-15, placing 12 shots on-goal to the Hoyas' 7.
