Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- The 17th-ranked Boston College field hockey team bounced back from a mid-week loss with an impressive 7-0 shutout over Quinnipiac Friday evening at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. With the win, the Eagles improve to 4-3 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 1-5.
The Eagles erupted for six first-half goals to take a lead that they would never relinquish. Capitalizing on an early flurry at net, BC forced two quick penalty corners, both of which turned into goals. Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.) collected a pair of goals, both from the stick of Kristen Madden (Concord, N.H.). Senior forward Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored the first and last goals of the game.
Five different Eagles broke into the scoring column as they outshot Quinnipiac, 24-2. BC took 11 penalty corners to none for the Bobcats. In addition to French and Drozd, Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.), Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.), and Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) scored for the Eagles. Madden tallied three assists on the evening while Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario) added a pair.
The Eagles will return to action Wednesday as they begin BIG EAST play with a 3:30 p.m. game at Providence. BC will return to Alumni Stadium on September 28 for a 1:00 p.m. tilt against Syracuse. It will mark Alumni Day for Boston College.
