Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 20th-ranked Boston College women's soccer team continued their winning ways this afternoon, defeating Holy Cross by a 10-1 score at Newton Campus Field. With the victory, BC improves its record to 7-0-0 while Holy Cross falls to 1-5-0.
The Eagles jumped out early with senior captain Lauren Vanni scoring her first goal of the season, with assists from classmate Sarah Rahko and freshman Jenny Maurer, just over three minutes into the game. Senior forward Beth Totman scored the next two BC goals, the first on a header, bringing her BIG EAST-leading total to ten. Rahko and freshman Mary Schneck registered the assists. Sophomore forward Katie McGregor added another goal at 22:23, scoring off a feed from Vanni, to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Freshman Heather Ferron added an unassisted goal at 30:23 and Maurer scored off a pass from Rahko just 24 seconds later. Sophomore Kelly Lavery then fed junior Laina Ceddia, who beat Crusader goalkeeper Christine Arsenault to give the Eagles the 7-0 lead at halftime.
Ceddia continued the offensive outburst in the second half, scoring on a run set up by passes from goalkeeper Kate Taylor and Totman. Lavery then scored back-to-back goals before 70 minutes had passed. Holy Cross got on the board with just over a minute left in the game when Lynette Zickl scored off a feed from Caitlin Dwyer.
Taylor made one save for the Eagles before giving way to sophomore Jessica Briody with 18 minutes to play. Arsenault made nine saves for the Crusaders. BC outshot Holy Cross 28-5. Holy Cross won the corner kick battle by a 6-1 margin.
The Eagles will face likely their toughest test of the season this Sunday when the also-undefeated Villanova Wildcats visit Newton Campus Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
