#20 Women's Soccer Tops Fairfield, 5-1

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 20th-ranked Boston College women's soccer team continued their winning ways today, defeating Fairfield by a score of 5-1 at Newton Campus Field. Sophomore forward Katie McGregor recorded three goals, her second hat trick of the season. In getting their sixth consecutive victory, the Eagles improved their record to 6-0-0. The Stags fell to 2-3-1.
BC attacked from the start, but was not able to convert on a scoring chance until 22:58 of the match when McGregor slid at a feed from freshman Heather Ferron and directed into the net. Less than two minutes later, senior forward Beth Totman took a pass from classmate Sarah Rahko and beat Fairfield goalkeeper Katie Ely to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage, a score that stood up through halftime.
Fairfield came out in the second half with better offensive pressure, but BC adjusted quickly. At 58:27 of the match, sophomore back Lindsey McArdle sent a header down the middle of the field to Ferron, who touched off to Rahko. The senior midfielder finished the play, finding the back of the goal. Just over a minute later, McGregor struck again, scoring off an assist from freshman forward Jenny Maurer. McGregor was not finished, as she tallied her third goal of the match on a shared assist from freshman Molly Dane and senior Lauren Vanni. McGregor also had three goals in the season opener against Wagner.
BC goalkeeper Kate Taylor had to make just one save, while Ely made 12. The Eagles outshot the Stags by a 36-4 margin and had a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.
The Eagles will be back in action at home on Wednesday September 17 when they take on Holy Cross on Newton Campus Field at 4:00 p.m.
