Gordie Megroz, who served the last three years as Boston College's assistant ski coach, has been named the school's head men's and women's ski coach, according to an announcement made by Boston College director of athletics Gene DeFilippo.
A 1998 graduate of Boston College, Megroz was a four-year member of the Eagles' varsity ski team. He served as team captain in his senior year.
After graduation, Megroz spent one year in the ski industry in Vail, Colo. and one year as a teacher and coach at Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vt. before returning to Boston College as assistant ski coach.
During his tenure as assistant coach, Megroz coordinated the team's recruiting effort, organized its fall conditioning program and worked as on-site coordinator of the Boston College Winter Carnival. The Eagles' men's and women's ski teams both earned berths in the USCSA National Championships in each of his three seasons.
During the summer of 2002, Megroz earned his Regional Coaches Certification after participating in the U.S. Ski Team National Coaches Academy at Mount Bachelor in Bend, Oregon. He gained the certification after completing a rigorous 12-day coaches development and training program that was conducted by the U.S. Ski Team staff.
