Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team defeated the Boston University Terriers this afternoon at Newton Campus Field by a 3-1 margin. With the win, the Eagles move to 2-0-0 on the young season, while the Terriers drop to 0-1-0.
The Eagles got on the board first as sophomore Katie McGregor, coming off a three-goal performance on Friday against Wagner, made a run and scored on the far post at 8:11 of the match. Less than eight minutes later, senior Beth Totman took a feed from freshman Jenny Maurer and lobbed a shot just over the outstretched arms of BU goalkeeper Jessica Clinton and into the net. With less than three minutes to play in the first half, sophomore Kelly Lavery found Maurer, who blasted a shot between two defenders and past a diving Clinton to put the Eagles on top 3-0 going into the break.
BU came out attacking in the second half, pounding out six shots, compared to none in the first half. At 66:14, Terrier Melissa Shulman took a pass from Lauren Ciccone and found the back of the goal. The Terriers remained aggressive, but the Eagle defense held strong and BC came away with the 3-1 victory.
BC outshot BU by an 18-6 margin and earned four corner kicks to two for BU. Clinton made five saves while Eagle sophomore keeper Kate Taylor registered two stops.
The Eagles are off until Friday, when they will open BIG EAST play at Georgetown. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
