CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team received commitments, including two national letters of intent, from its 2003 class of recruits. The five incoming players will join 17 veterans under Head Coach Sherren Granese.
The following is a list of players who will join the Boston College field hockey team as newcomers next season:
Amanda Chase Forward/Midfield Cumberland, Me./Greely HS * Four-year varsity starter for Greely High * Ms. Maine Field Hockey (2002) * Conference MVP (2002) * Two-time all-state and regional All-AmericanMary DeFilippo Midfield Wellesley, Mass./Newton Country Day * Three-time Eastern Independent League all-star * Three-time team MVP * All-New England (2002)
Tara Fernandes Forward/Midfield Mississauga, Ontario/Holy Name of Mary * Three-time Nationals participant as part of the Ontario provincial team * Two-time participant in Big Apple Outdoor Tournament as part of a club team * Member of club teams since 1995 * Won first place in under-13 junior club tournament (1995)
Brenna Leahy Midfield/Back Windham, N.H./St. Paul's School * Three-time Independent School League (ISL) All-League (2000, 2001, 2002) * Two-time ISL Champion (1999, 2000)
Sarah York Forward/Midfield Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS (transfer from University of Virginia - sophomore standing) * Led the state in scoring (2000, 2001) * Set state tournament scoring record (2001) * Middlesex League All-Star (1999-2001) * Middlesex League MPV (2000) * Boston Globe All-Scholastic (2000-2001)
