PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Women's lacrosse sophomore Jackie Yovankin earned BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 7, the league office announced Monday. The midfielder was also named to the womenslacrosse.com Player of the Week honor roll for the same period.
With a key interception in the waning moments of each game this week, Yovankin helped secure 10-8 and 9-8 victories over Virginia Tech and Cal-Berkeley, respectively, to extend the Eagles' win streak to four games. She picked up seven groundballs in each match, and currently leads the conference in that category with 42.
The preseason All-BIG EAST selection also caused seven turnovers during the week, and added a goal, her sixth of the season, against Cal-Berkeley.
