CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After a senior night ceremony celebrating the careers of manager Lisa Pataki and senior captain Lauren Meyers, the Boston College women's lacrosse team (8-6) took to the field at Alumni Stadium to defeat Quinnipiac University (8-8) by a score of 16-6.
The Eagles took a commanding seven goal lead in the first 12 minutes of play before Quinnipiac managed to post a goal of its own. Sophomore Carley St. Lucia led the early rush with a quick hat trick, while junior captain Meggie O'Neill added two goals. Sophomore Susie Breaznell and freshman Carter Kahle each had one of their own in the flurry. Jackie Yovankin had her first of the game, and St. Lucia and O?Neill would each augment their totals to give BC the 10-2 advantage heading into the break.
The Boston College offense slowed down dramatically at the start of the second frame. Quinnipiac beat BC goalkeeper Michelle Lawson twice in the first 15 minutes of the period to force the Eagles to call a timeout. St. Lucia scored her fifth of the contest and Breaznell added two coming off the whistle, but the Bobcats answered with two more. Despite the attempted comeback by Quinnipiac, the Eagles' early rush was too much to overcome. BC freshman Alana Vivolo and Yovankin closed out the scoring on the night with one each at the end of the contest.
St. Lucia led BC with five goals and one assist. Christy Smallman led the Bobcats with two goals and an assist for three points. QU goalkeeper Megan Matthews recorded 18 saves in the outing.
The Eagles will travel to Storrs, Conn. to make up a game with UConn that was originally postponed due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The contest has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 4 at noon.
