NFHCA Names Field Hockey Academic All-America Team

Glenn Allen, Va. - Six different Boston College field hockey players earned a spot on the 2002 NFHCA Division I Academic All-America squad as announced recently by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). For four of the six players, it was the second such honor. Two players were newly-named to the squad.
Representing the Eagles are Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario), Maria LoRusso (Norwood, Mass.), Lauren Schultz (New Milford, Conn.), Kim Young (Ann Arbor, Mich.), and Christy Zider (Barre, Vt.).
French was the 2002 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, finishing the season as the team's leading scorer with 12 goals and two assists for 26 points. Both French and Kelly (3 goals, 4 assists, 10 points) were named to the All-BIG EAST first team selection while Zider (5 goals, 2 assists, 12 points). LoRusso started 20 of 21games for BC while Schultz (4 goals, 4 assists, 12 points) started all 21.
The Eagles finished the season at 15-6 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST.
