CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior shortstop Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week Monday after her solid effort in the Eagles' 3-1 week. She is the first softball Eagle of the spring to be honored by the conference office.
With their ninth win of the season, Blumfield and the Eagles helped Head Coach Jen Finley improve to 215-155-1 at Boston College. She is just nine wins away from her career 300th, standing at 291-192-1 in her 10th season of coaching.
Blumfield helped the Eagles to a 3-1 record this past week, winning the tournament crown at the Hofstra Invitational with two wins over Monmouth and a single victory over the host Pride. Blumfield tallied eight hits in 13 at-bats for a .614 average on the week. She didn't commit an error all weekend. In her team's first victory over Monmouth, she belted three hits (including a home run).
The Eagles are currently 9-12 overall.
This week, the Eagles will host Maine in a single game Thursday at 4:00 p.m. on Shea Field. They will remain at home to open the BIG EAST schedule with a doubleheader against Providence Saturday at 12:00 noon. Sunday, the team will travel to cross-town foe Boston University for a 12:00 noon doubleheader.
