Boston College senior guard Troy Bell earned Basketball Times All-America first team honors, according to an announcement made by the magazine.
The magazine also announced that BC freshman forward Craig Smith captured All-Freshman first team honors and All-Northeast Region accolades. Basketball Times selects three All-America teams, seven All-Region teams and two All-Freshman teams.
Joining Bell on the first team were David West of Xavier, Nick Collison of Kansas, Dwyane Wade of Marquette and T.J. Ford of Texas.
Smith was joined on the All-Northeast Region Team by Ryan Gomes of Providence, Ben Gordon of Connecticut, Marques Green of St. Bonaventure and Marcus Hatten of St. John's.
Joining Smith on the All-Freshman first team were Carmelo Anthony of Syracuse, Chris Bosh of Georgia Tech, Ike Diogu of Arizona State and Daniel Horton of Michigan.
Bell previously earned BIG EAST Player of the Year honors and USBWA District I Player of the Year honors. He won the BIG EAST scoring title, finishing with a 27.8 ppg average in conference contests. His league scoring average set a BIG EAST single-season record, shattering the 27.4 ppg mark set by Seton Hall's Dan Callandrillo in 1981-82. Bell also leads all conference players with a 25.2 ppg average in all games. He led the Eagles to a 19-12 overall record, including a 10-6 mark in conference play. The Eagles earned a share of the East Division regular-season title, the program's second title in three seasons and fifth overall. BC earned a berth in the 2003 National Invitation Tournament.
Smith, who'd previously captured All-Conference second team honors and BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honors, averaged 19.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He leads the BIG EAST Conference with a .603 field goal percentage in all games.
