Men's Tennis Breezes Past Stony Brook, 6-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The men's tennis team got its first victory of 2003 as it defeated Stony Brook, 6-1, Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
The Eagles won at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles and swept all three doubles matches. Junior Brad Anderson (Edina, Minn.) beat Egil Anonsen, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 while junior Justin Slattery (Hampton, NH) slipped past Mike Crooks at No. 2, 7-5, 6-4.
Also picking up singles victories for Boston College (1-2) were sophomore Jonathan Ounjian (Delray Beach, Fla.), junior Paul Colahan (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Derrick Chou (Great Neck, N.Y.). Those triumphs came at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, respectively.
At No. 1 doubles, Slattery and Anderson downed Anonsen and Crooks, 8-3. Junior Ross Pytko (Oxford, Mass.) and senior Damon Vartabedian (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) teamed up to beat Jean-Francois Robitaille and David Hewitt, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, while sophomores Chris McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Bob Murray (Kenner, La.) overcame Patrick Drozdzik and Philippe Amireault at No. 3, winning 8-3.
The team travels to Dartmouth Sunday, Feb. 16, to take on the Big Green at noon.
