Eagles Top Minutewomen, 175-123

AMHERST, Mass. - In its final dual meet of the 2002-03 campaign, the Boston College women's swimming and diving team beat the University of Massachusetts, 175-123, this weekend. The Eagles have won eight consecutive dual meets and conclude the year with a 12-3 overall record.
Boston College got off to a quick start, winning the 200-yard medley relay. Nina Suryoutomo, Michelle Lane, Elizabeth Byron and Holly Boucher captured BC's first points. The Eagles pressed on, taking first and second in the next two races. Nicole Duffy and Lisa DelSignore finished back-to-back in the 1000-yard freestyle, and were followed by a 1-2 finish from Caitlin Klick and Caitlin Healey in the 200-yard free. Massachusetts mustered a comeback, putting Minutewomen in the top spot in the next four events.
The Eagles got back on track as Byron and Suryoutomo took first and second in the 100-freestyle and Kathleen McCann topped the rest of the competition in the 200-backstroke. Nikoll Julien won the 200-yard breaststroke before the Eagles commanded the pool in the 500-freestyle. Healey, Duffy, and Karen Tellekamp finished 1-2-3 to sweep the event.
Down the stretch, the Eagles remained strong. Victoria Thelin won the 100-butterfly, followed by McCann and Klick's 1-2 performance in the 200-IM. To seal the meet, the 400-freestyle relay squad of Healey, Duffy, Suryoutomo and Byron were victorious.
Boston College finished the year with eight consecutive wins. It will compete in the BIG EAST and ECAC Championship meets at the end of the month.
