Medford, Mass. - Boston College Fencing finished its dual-meet season on Saturday with wins over UNH, UMass, Wellesley (women), Tufts and BU. Their results earn the women's team third place in the Northeast Fencing Conference (behind Harvard and MIT), while the men finish tied for second with MIT (behind Harvard).
The women's match against Tufts would determine third place in the conference, and with two bouts remaining, the score was Tufts 13, BC12. Senior Allison Maher kept the Eagle's hopes alive with her 5-2 victory to knot the match score at 13 all.
For the third time this season, senior Elizabeth Lennox stepped onto the strip with the score tied 13-13, and her bout being the determinant. Again, for the third time this season Lennox delivered a victory. "Biffy's [Lennox is] the fencer you want on the strip in these situations because she's able to fence at her best when the pressure is on..." commented Head Coach Syd Fadner.
The Eagles will next see action at the New England Championships hosted by Dartmouth on Saturday Feb. 22, in Hanover, New Hampshire, match time is 8:30 a.m.
