Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women?s swim team finished one-two in over half of the 16 events to beat visiting Central Connecticut State University, 163-103. Xan Wappel racked up two individual event wins to lead the Eagles. Wappel, the team's Outstanding Performer, finished first in both breaststroke events. Wappel won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.10, followed by teammates Erin Fransen (1:12.97) and Sarah Healey (1:13.12). Wappel's 2:32.55 mark in the 200-yard breaststroke was also good enough for gold.
Lauren Keibler outswam teammate Katie Martin (2:03.54) for gold in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.69). Michelle Lane led BC's one-two-three sweep of the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.27), earning her the team?s outstanding performance recognition. Maurya Couvares and Valerie Hsia finished second (1:02.26) and third (1:03.15), respectively, in that race.
Karen Tellekamp topped the field with an event-low 10:55.80 in the 1000-yard freestyle, and Liz Byron earned first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.59). The 200-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle events were won by a pair of Boston College swimmers who share the same first name. Caitlin Healey was clocked at 2:17.45 in the backstroke and Caitlin Leahy won the long distance freestyle at 5:29.47.
