CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's ski team earned the top ranking and the men's team was chosen third in the annual preseason coaches poll announced by the United States Collegiate Skiing Association (USCSA).
Last season, the men's and women's programs took home second-place performances at the showcase event of college racing, the USCSA Nationals held at Northstar ski resort in California.
Boston College racing takes place within the USCSA. The USCSA is the sports federation for collegiate team ski racing in America. It maintains over 85% of the skiing programs in the United States (the remaining 15% compete in NCAA-only events).
USCSA competition takes place across three progressive tiers. The 11 conferences host Conference qualifiers to determine the participants at the five USCSA Regional Championships (Eastern, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Far West and West). The Regional Championships are the last step on the road to the annual United States Collegiate Skiing and Snowboard Championships.
Scoring is as a team. Team performance is emphasized within the USCSA, a departure from the typical individual or world cup scoring format in skiing. Teams field five racers with the top three performances being used for the team score.
The Eagles get their season underway on Saturday, January 17 at the UMass-Amherst Carnival.
