Glenn Allen, Va. - Boston College sophomore defender Kristen Madden (Concord, N.H.) earned a spot on the 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I All-America second team as announced today by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The honor is a first for Madden. It's the first time since the 2001 season that a BC player has been named to the NFHCA All-America team.
The NFHCA selects three teams of 16 members each from the list of winners from five Regional All-America teams. First team members from the Midatlantic Region, the Mideast Region, the Northeast Region, the South Region, and the West Region were eligible for the national All-America team.
Madden was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after a season that included three goals and six assists for 12 points. Madden is a two-time NFHCA Northeast Regional All-America. This is her first appearance as a national All-American.
The Eagles finished the season at 15-7 overall, qualifying for their first NCAA Tournament since 1998. With a 4-1 BIG EAST mark and two conference tournament victories, the Eagles were 2003 BIG EAST Field Hockey Champions.
