Women's Tennis Completes First Fall Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Boston College women's tennis team finished their first weekend invitational of the fall season at Brown University going 22-14 overall. The Eagles went 16-10 in singles competition and 6-4 in doubles play.
Bright spots for the Eagles were freshman Lindsey Nash (Linfield HS/San Diego, Calif.) and junior Morgan Landes (Huron HS/Huron, Ohio). Despite losing her first round match, Nash cruised through the "Feed In Flight C" bracket winning four straight. Landes advanced to the "Flight D" championship but came up short against Serena Fermin (LMU).
The Eagles doubles' teams finished 6-4 for the weekend. The No. 1 tandem of Emily Hellberg (Grand Haven/Spring Lake, Mich.) and Nida Waseem (Deerfield/Karachi, Pakistan) fell in the finals of "Flight A" doubles competition to Karlyn Martin and Ashley Martin of Yale, 8-6.
The Eagles suffered a setback on day two with sophomore Szilvia Szegedi (Dumakeszi, Hungary) withdrawing from the tournament due to injury. Szegedi, the Eagles top singles player, was to compete in the semifinals of "Flight A" but was injured during her doubles match. Svegedi and doubles partner Allison Ashley (Brookline HS/Chestnut Hill, Mass.) withdrew after three games in "Flight B" doubles competition.
Boston College travels to Flushing Meadows, N.Y. next weekend for the USTA Invitational.
