Women's Tennis Opens Up Fall Season At Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Boston College women's tennis team opened up the fall season yesterday combining to win 11 of 16 matches in singles and doubles play. The Eagles were led by sophomore standout Szilvia Szegedi (Dumakeszi, Hungary) and senior co-captain Emily Hellberg (Grand Haven HS/Spring Lake, Minn.). Both will compete in the semifinals of their respective flights today.
In Flight A singles, Svegedi routed both her opponents beating Syracuse's Lise Juliussen 6-1, 6-0 and LMU's Diana Vinis 6-2, 6-0. Hellberg won her only match 5-7, 6-4 (5) against Laura Seiverling of Temple.
Juniors' Morgan Landes (Huron HS/Huron, Ohio) and Emily Yeomans (Carondelet HS/Lafayette, Calif.) went 1-0 on the day and will also compete in the semifinals of Flight D.
Senior co-captain Allison Ashley (Brookline HS/Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and sophomore Amy Molden (Univ. of San Diego HS/El Cajon, Calif.) went 1-1 in Flight B singles. Freshman Lindsey Nash (Linfield HS/San Diego, Calif.) also went 1-1 competing in Flight C.
Three out of four Eagles doubles' teams advanced to the quarterfinals. Hellberg and Waseem will team-up to compete against Brown while Nash and Landes will take-on a tandem from BU.
The Eagles continue action in the Brown Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
