Providence, R.I. -- The 16th-ranked Boston College field hockey team posted a 5-1 non-conference win over Brown Saturday afternoon at Brown University. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-3 overall (2-0 BIG EAST) on the season. The Brown Bears fall to 5-4.
Brown began the scoring first, breaking the game open with a goal at the 2:24 mark. The Eagles, however, would tie the game just two minutes later on a Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) score that would notch the game at one through the intermission.
In the second half, BC broke open the game with four unanswered goals. Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario) scored what would stand as the game-winning goal at the 56:10 mark. Just three minutes later, sophomore Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) collected her tenth goal of the season, scoring on a Kristen Madden (Concord, N.H.) assist. Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.) netted the last two goals for the Eagles, both assisted by senior captain Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.).
Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) and Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) split time in net for the winners.
The Eagles will next return to Alumni Stadium when they host Holy Cross on October 12.
