Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 19th-ranked Boston College women's soccer team defeated the University of Hartford tonight at Newton Campus Field by a score of 2-1. The Eagles improved to 11-2-2 on the season (1-2-1 BIG EAST). Hartford fell to 4-10-2.
The majority of the first half was played in the middle of the field, with neither team able to generate a legitimate scoring chance. The two squads managed just two shots in the first half, both by Boston College.
The second half took on a more offensive tenor, as each team began to mount an attack. The Eagles struck first when freshman Heather Ferron found sophomore forward Katie McGregor with a pass. McGregor fired a shot past Hartford goalkeeper Heather Hinton for her team-leading 11th goal of the season. The Hawks answered back eight minutes later when Jeanette Akerlund scored an unassisted goal 59:41 into the match. BC one-upped the Hawks, though, as senior Sarah Rahko took a feed from Ferron and found the back of the net with 13 minutes to play to give the Eagles the 2-1 victory.
Kate Taylor made two saves for the Eagles, while Hinton had six stops for the Hawks. BC outshot Hartford 12-6 and earned four corner kicks to two for the Hawks.
The Eagles return to action on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Miami Hurricanes at Newton Campus Field.
