Eagles Conclude Fall Competition At ITA Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Boston College men's tennis team has concluded fall competition at the ITA Northeast Regional Invitational hosted by Cornell University at the Reis Tennis Center, Friday October 17 through Tuesday, October 21. Teammates Justin Slattery (Hampton, N.H.) and Chris McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) combined to go 6-4 through tournament play.
Slattery advanced to the third round of tournament play before he was defeated by Virginia Tech's Angel Diankov in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Prior to his third round exit, Slattery beat Randy Rocchio of Buffalo and then knocked off 8th-seeded Scott Paltrowitz of Cornell in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).
McCoy, a junior, lost his first round match but advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket defeating Erik Biloman of Georgetown and Chris Hagan of Marist before falling to the eventual consolation singles champion Morton Shulz of Virginia Tech in three sets, 3-6, 4-6(10-3).
In doubles action the two advanced to the round of 16 by beating opponents from the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton before being edged by Cornell, 8-6.
Boston College men's tennis begins 2004 competition when the Host Colgate January 24, 2004.
