Slattery, McCoy Compete In ITA Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. - Two members of the Boston College men's tennis team completed their second day of play in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships held at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca N.Y., October 17-21.
Through two full days of competition, senior Justin Slattery (Hampton, N.H.) has advanced to the third round of play after defeating Randy Rocchio of Buffalo in straight sets and then knocking off 8th-seeded Scott Paltrowitz of Cornell in a three set thriller. Slattery is set to play his fourth round match Sunday.
Teammate Chris McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is 2-1. McCoy lost in the opening round to Aravinda Neuman of Cornell 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, before defeating Erik Biloman of Georgetown and Chris Hagan of Marist. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation singles bracket when Milsz Gudzowski of Yale withdrew.
The duo have teamed up to go undefeated in doubles play. In the opening round, Slattery and McCoy beat Lavner and Fairbanks of Pennsylvania, 8-5 before knocking off Kofol and Saengsuwaen of Princeton, 8-6 and have advanced to the round of 16.
Both players continue action Sunday.
