Providence, R.I. - Boston College sophomore forward Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) and junior back Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) took home weekly honors from the BIG EAST office. York was the conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year while Doherty was the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Week. The duo helped the Eagles catapult from a No. 15 ranking to a No. 13 ranking with a 2-0 week, including a victory over Connecticut that secured their hold on first place in the BIG EAST. They are the fifth and sixth Eagles to be honored by the conference office.
York, the team's leading scorer with 13 goals, netted three scores on the week. She registered the game-tying goal in a 2-1 win over Connecticut and the game-winning goal in a 5-0 shutout over Holy Cross. In the latest national stats, she is tied for tenth in goals scored and eighth in goals per game.
Doherty played an integral role in BC's defense, a defense that held its opponents to just one goal scored over the week. She helped the Eagles collect their seventh shutout of the season. In addition, she added an assist in BC's 2-1 win over Connecticut.
In the latest STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, Boston College was ranked 12th. In the latest NCAA statistics, the Eagles are ranked ninth in winning percentage (.769), seventh in scoring defense (1.04 goals allowed per game), 12th in scoring offense (3.2 goals per game), and seventh in margin of victory (+2.16).
This week, the Eagles will travel to Villanova for a 1:00 p.m. BIG EAST game Saturday, October 18.
