CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Ben Eaves tallied six points on two goals and four assists to lead sixth-ranked Boston College to a 9-0 victory over HOCKEY EAST foe Massachusetts, Friday night in front of 6,108 at Kelley Rink. The win improves the Eagles to 16-6-3 (11-4-1 HEA), while the Minutemen fall to 14-12-1 (8-10-0 HEA).
Junior Tony Voce broke the 100-point mark on his five point effort on two goals and three assists. Voce becomes the 60th player in BC history to accomplish the feat, and moves into a four-way tie for 56th BC's all-time scoring list with 104 points.
After taking an early 1-0 lead on junior Justin Dziama's fourth goal of the season, BC broke the game open on two shorthanded goals only 41 seconds apart by junior J.D. Forrest and Eaves.
After Voce scored his first of the night at 16:06 of the first period on the power play, Eaves closed the first period scoring on his second of the game to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead after the break.
Freshman Chris Collins and Voce each scored a power-play goal in the second period before freshman Stephen Gionta registered his first two collegiate goals in the third period.
Sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 10 saves for the Eagles in 48:52, while sophomore Robbie Miller saw his first collegiate action, making four saves in the final 11:08. Michael Waidlich made nine saves for the Minutemen, while Tim Warner made 15.
Eaves' six point night, a career-high, now gives the junior 39 points on the season and 117 in his career. Eaves surpasses Mike Ewanouski on BC's all-time scoring list for 45th place.
Eaves now has 19 points (eight goals and 11 assists), while Voce has 14 points - six goals and eight assists - in the previous six games.
Boston College has won 22 of the last 24 games with Massachusetts.
The Eagles return to action Monday, February 3, when it plays Northeastern in the first round of the 51st Annual Beanpot. Game time is 8 p.m.
