Women's Soccer Tops Iowa, 2-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer squad got back on the winning track today, defeating Iowa, 2-1, at Newton Campus Field. With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-1-0, while the Hawkeyes fall to 3-1-0.
Senior captain Katherine Halloran scored the decisive goal 57:56 into the contest, after collecting a nifty pass from senior Carolyn Iacobelli. Freshman Mary Zider, who dished the ball off to Iacobelli, was also credited with an assist, after dishing the ball off to Iacobelli. Zider's assist is her first collegiate point.
The Eagles got on the board 16:48 into the match thanks to the hustle of junior Sarah Rahko. After Rahko unloaded a shot on Hawkeyes' goalkeeper Britta Vogele, she collected her own rebound and put the ball in the net for the tally.
The Eagles played strong defense down the stretch, only allowing one Iowa shot in the second half.
Freshman goalkeeper Kate Taylor made two saves for the Eagles to improve her reocrd to 3-1-0.
Vogele made six saves in net for Iowa. Courtney Wilkerson scored the lone goal for the Hawkeyes.
The Eagles return to action Fri., Sept. 13, when they face Penn State at 3 p.m. The game, which will be played at Newton Campus Field, is the first game of the Harvard University Tournament.
