CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two Boston College women's soccer players were named players of the week by the BIG EAST conference for their outstanding performances against Massachusetts and Holy Cross.
Sophomore Laina Ceddia (Belmont/Belmont, Mass.) was honored as the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for her three goals and two assists in the Eagles' first two games. Ceddia is considered a rookie because she did not see any action during the 2001 campaign due to a knee injury. Her eight points thus far lead all Eagles in that category. Ceddia notched the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Massachusetts, while connecting for two goals and two assists against Holy Cross.
Freshman Kate Taylor (University School/Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, after not allowing a goal in 159 minutes for the Eagles. Taylor earned a shutout in her first collegiate contest, stopping two shots in a 1-0 victory over Massachusetts. She faced one shot in 69 minutes of action in a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross.
The Eagles return to action Friday, Sept. 6, when they travel to Morgantown, W.V. to face No. 17 West Virginia. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
