CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's tennis team opens the 2002-03 season by hosting the first Eagle Invitational Fri.-Sun., Sept. 13-15 at the Flynn Recreation Complex. Boston University and perennial Division II power Assumption College make the trip to the Heights for this weekend's matches.
The format of the event is disguised dual match play, meaning there is no official team scoring. All singles matches are best of three, while doubles are eight-game pro sets with regular scoring.
The Terriers and Greyhounds have already met once this year, back on Sept. 7-8 at the Assumption College Invitational, which also included Vermont and New Hampshire. The host school dominated play, winning all eight singles finals and three of four doubles finals. BU put three players and two doubles teams in the finals, but failed to come away with a champion.
Head coach Rob Miller's squad returns all but one player from a team that is coming off of a spring season in which it went 13-9 overall and 6-0 in BIG EAST dual matches, but was eliminated in the consolation round of the conference championship.
The match schedule for the 2002 Eagle Invitational is as follows:
