CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross today at Newton Campus Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-1-0 on the season. The Eagles have not allowed a goal in their first two games.
Sophomore Laina Ceddia was the story for the Eagles, notching two goals and adding an assist in the contest. After missing the 2001 season with a knee injury, the feisty sophomore has already tallied seven points for the Eagles in their first two matches.
Senior Carolyn Iacobelli opened the scoring 6:15 into the match, and the Eagles never looked back. Following Ceddia's first goal, senior Katherine Halloran connected on a shot from the top of the box that deflected off the post and into the goal. After another Ceddia tally, senior Kate MacDonald closed the scoring by heading in a cross of a corner kick by junior Sarah Rahko.
Rahko added to her overall point tally, dishing out three assists - two of which came on Ceddia's goals.
In the Boston College net, freshman Kate Taylor and junior Elyse Meredith combined to save a shot each for the shutout. Taylor has not allowed a goal in 159:33 this season.
Boston College has outscored Holy Cross 19-2 in their last three meetings.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, Sept. 6, when they travel to Morgantown, W.V. to face No. 17 West Virginia. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
