CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team begins the 2002 season August 30, when they face Massachusetts at noon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. The Eagles and Minutewomen met last season in the season opener in Agawam, Mass. UMass won in dramatic fashion, beating the Eagles 4-3 in double overtime.
The Eagles' 2002 roster features a blend of experience and youth, highlighted by four experienced seniors and 12 incoming freshman. "We have a great blend, we really do," notes Head Coach Alison Foley, who enters her fifth season at the Heights. "What's exciting is we have seniors who have seen it all, and they have the most postseason experience of any team at BC."
Senior co-captains Katherine Halloran and Kate MacDonald lead the Eagles with a wealth of experience and talent. Rounding out the seniors are Colleen Danaher and Carolyn Iacobelli.
The Eagles offensive will be led by junior Sarah Rahko. Rahko, a BIG EAST First Team recipient and conference Mid-Fielder of the Year, will be a dangerous threat for opponents this year. "Rahko is probably the most talented player in the program right now, and with that, she has matured through the program. We will really see leadership out of her this fall. She will be our go-to person on the ball."
The Eagles' next contest will be Sunday, September 1, when they face Holy Cross at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. Kick-off is slated for 2:30.
