Eagles Tabbed Fourth In BIG EAST Field Hockey Poll

Providence, R.I. - The Boston College field hockey team was selected to finish in fourth place in the 2002 BIG EAST Preseason Field Hockey Poll, as picked by the coaches. Syracuse, the defending BIG EAST champion, was selected as the favorite to win the regular season title in 2002, receiving five first-place votes. Boston College received the only other first-place vote.
A pair of juniors in Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.) found a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. French, a 2001 first team selection, was a unanimous vote. She is the team's leading scorer from last year, netting 12 goals and an assist for 25 points. Drozd is making her first appearance on a conference team. She led last year's squad with 10 assists.
Syracuse received 25 points for the No. 1 spot in the 2002 BIG EAST Field Hockey preseason coaches poll. The Orangewomen won the 2001 conference title. Connecticut (21 pts.) and Villanova (16) were second and third while Boston College (15) was in the fourth spot, garnering the only other first-place vote. Rutgers (8) and Providence (6) were picked fifth and sixth, respectively.
In 2001, Boston College finished with an 11-8 overall mark (4-1 BIG EAST). The Eagles return three players who were All-BIG EAST selections from one year ago.
