Three Boston College hockey players -- Ryan Murphy, Ryan Shannon and Dave Spina -- are among 47 players who have been invited to the 2002 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp, according to an announcement made by USA Hockey.
Murphy, Shannon and Spina will all be sophomores in 2002-03.
The camp will be held Aug. 1-10 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., and will include the 2002 USA Hockey Summer Challenge, an exhibition series between two U.S. squads (Teams Blue and White) and an under-20 select team from Finland. The 47 players at the evaluation camp are candidates for the 2003 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2003 IIHF World Junior Championship. The tournament, which features the world's best players under the age of 20, will take place Dec. 26, 2002-Jan. 5, 2003 in Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Murphy (Rumford, N.J.) registered 14 points -- seven goals and seven assists -- in 35 games as a freshman in 2001-02.
Shannon (Darien, Conn.) recorded 25 points -- eight goals and 17 assists -- in 38 games in 2001-02. He captured the program's inaugural Bernie Burke Outstanding Freshman Award.
Spina (Mesa, Ariz.) registered 26 points -- 13 goals and 13 assists -- in 36 games this past winter. He earned HOCKEY EAST All-Rookie Team honors.
