Sailing Finishes Fifth In ICSA Dinghy Championship

Boston College finished in fifth place out of the 18 teams that qualified for the 2002 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA)/Gill North American Coed Dinghy Championship at Keehi Lagoon on the south shore of Oahu.
The Eagles, who placed fourth in last year's competition, finished in fifth place with a total of 237 points. Of the New England teams, Boston College finished second to Harvard. Fourth-ranked St. Mary's (Md.) fought off second-ranked Harvard and seventh-ranked Hawaii for the championship. St. Mary's winning point total was 203 while Harvard ended with 210 and Hawaii finished with 219 points.
Representing the team in Hawaii were Tyler Pruett ('02), Sarah Helming ('02), Mark Teborek ('03), Carrie Howe ('03), Justin Dieckerhoff ('03), Joy MacDougal ('05), Jen Doyle ('05), and Julie Wilson ('05). The athletes were accompanied by coaches Tim Herzog and Rob Richards.
The individual accomplishments piled high this year as they received more All-America Honors than ever before in BC sailing history. Tyler Pruett was named ICSA All-American, Sarah Helming was named ICSA All-American Crew, Mark Teborek was named ICSA All-American Honorable Mention, and Carrie Howe was named ICSA Women's All-American Honorable Mention.
