
Hockey Upends Maine, 4-3

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Ben Eaves netted one goal and added two assists in his first game back from injury to pace Boston College to a 4-3 HOCKEY EAST victory over Maine on Friday before 6,876 at Kelley Rink. Eaves had missed the Eagles' previous 10 games with broken ribs. Maine entered the game on a 5-0-2 tear, while the Eagles were 1-7-0 in their last eight games.
Andrew Alberts gave BC a 1-0 lead at 4:23 with a long blast from the neutral zone. J.D. Forrest and Tim Kelleher assisted on the goal. The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 when Ryan Murphy scored off a feed from Tony Voce and Eaves at 15:33 of the first period.
Maine (16-8-5, 10-4-3 HEA) responded with a goal 19 seconds later - at 15:52 - when Peter Metcalf knocked in a rebound. Martin Kariya and Colin Shields assisted on his goal.
The Black Bears knotted the score at 2-2 when Kariya scored a shorthanded goal at 7:22 of the second period. Francis Nault and Shields set up the score.
Boston College (14-13-2, 7-10-1 HEA) answered with two goals to take a 4-2 lead. Eaves scored off a Voce pass at 13:16 of the second, then Ryan Shannon scored a 4x3 goal at 13:10 of the third period. Forrest and Eaves set up the power-play goal.
Maine pulled goaltender Mike Morrison to gain the extra skater and pulled within one goal - at 4-3 - at 18:52 when Tom Reinmann scored the 6x5 tally. Matt Greyeyes and Metcalf assisted on the goal.
Kelleher made 23 saves in the win, while Morrison made 29 saves in the loss. Boston College outshot the Black Bears, 33-26, including a 15-7 margin in the middle stanza.
The Eagles will next face Harvard on Monday, February 11 in the consolation game of the Beanpot at 5 p.m.
