John Mortimer Joins Boston College Track And Field Staff

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - John Mortimer (Somerville, Mass.) has been named assistant coach of Boston College's men's and women's cross country and track and field programs, effective immediately. He will be responsible for coaching the men's one-mile, 3,000-, 5,000-, 10,000- and 3,000-meter steeplechase runners. He will also work with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase competitors.
"John will bring a tremendous wealth of knowledge and prestige to the Boston College cross country and track and field programs," Randy Thomas, Director of the Boston College Cross Country and Track and Field programs, said.
Mortimer, a 1999 graduate of the University of Michigan, comes to the Heights after a brief stint at Harvard University where he was a volunteer assistant coach under head coach Frank Haggerty. While at Harvard, Mortimer assisted Haggerty in administration, recruiting and day-to-day coaching of the men's and women's distance runners.
Following his graduation from Michigan, where he ran on both the cross country and track and field teams, he signed a contract to represent Adidas as a professional runner. As a member of the Adidas team, he competed in events throughout the country, including the United States National Championships and the United State Olympic Trials.
Mortimer's personal accomplishments include being a member of the United States Track and Field team. While at Michigan, he was named a seven-time All-America and a six-time Big Ten Conference cross country and track and field champion. He was also a four-time academic All-American and academic all- Big Ten.
