Providence, RI - Boston College freshman guard Clare Droesch (Belle Harbor, NY) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Monday morning after her solid effort over the last week. The honor is her second selection as she received the first nod for the week of December 23.
With hot shooting from the field, Droesch helped the Eagles to a 2-0 record over the week. In a pair of wins, Droesch averaged 21.0 points and 3.0 assists as she hit 10 three-pointers. In a 75-62 win over Georgetown, Droesch netted a career-high 25 points, including five trifectas. Four days earlier, she was a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the three-point arc as she scored 17 points in a 76-51 win over West Virginia. In the two games, Droesch shot 51.0 % (14-27) from the field, including 10-of-14 from long range. She committed just one turnover in 50 minutes.
Droesch is one of four players who are averaging double digit points for BC. She is the team's second leading scorer with 12.0 points per game. She has played all 21 games for the Eagles and is averaging 12.6 points per game in conference play.
The Eagles travel to Notre Dame and West Virginia next week. BC will play at the Joyce Center in South Bend on Sunday, February 10. Tuesday evening, the Eagles will face West Virginia. Boston College will return to Conte Forum on February 16, facing Pittsburgh at 2 pm.
