Waterville Valley, N.H. - The Boston College skiing teams make their presence felt in a 1-2 finish at the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference Eastern Regional Championships.? The women's squad, who has been dominant all season, took first place in both the Slalom and the Giant Slalom for an overall victory.? The men were not far behind as they earned a third place finish in the Slalom and a second place in the Giant Slalom for second place overall.? The event was held at Waterville Valley with the Slalom on Sunday and the Giant Slalom following on Monday.
The women's squad did not fall off of from their usual standard one bit at the Eastern Championships.? The victories in the Slalom and the Giant Slalom are becoming routine at the Heights this season.? Arguably, the most pressure they have felt all season is from each other, with senior Christina Gush and junior Lori Williams dueling atop the conference standings all season.? Gush finished on top in the regular season, but Williams finished strong in the Regional Championships. In fact, she finished so strong that she won both the Slalom and the Giant Slalom to earn the top spot in the East.? Gush finished a combined tenth (23 S - 5 GS) to also secure All-East recognition.? Not to be forgotten, are sophomore standouts Erica Pylman and Jennifer Runco.? The pair have been excellent throughout their second seasons and garnered All-Conference, along with Gush and Williams, as well as All-East honors.? The pair finished nine-ten in the conference standings and four-five in the Regional Championships (Pylman 4 S - 3 GS, Runco 5 S - 7 GS).
On the men's side, the season has not been as smooth.? Yet, you wouldn't be able to tell from watching on Sunday and Monday.? The men finished third in the Slalom and second in the Giant Slalom to earn a second place finish overall.? Sophomore Seth Therrien led the way with his sixth place in the Slalom and fourth in the Giant Slalom.? His marks earned him a fourth place finish in the combined standings and All-East honors.? Joining him in the All-East ranks is senior Michael Duran, a fourth place in the Slalom and an eleventh place in the GS were enough to net a sixth place combined total.? Both Therrien and Duran earned All-Conference selections for their tenth and thirteenth places in the season standings, respectively.? Junior Barry Connolly and sophomore David Giulietti were not far behind their mates in the season standings, finishing sixteenth and nineteenth, or in the Eastern Championships where both men just missed finishing in the top fifteen scoring positions (Connolly 18 S - 19 GS, Giullietti 16 S - 17 GS).
Both Eagle squads have earned berths to the United States Collegiate Ski Association National Championships to be held at Waterville Valley, N.H. from Wednesday, March 13 through Saturday, March 16.
