Shannon Earns HOCKEY EAST's Weekly Rookie Nod

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman forward Ryan Shannon (Darien, Conn.) earned HOCKEY EAST Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, Feb. 25. In a weekend sweep of 13th-ranked Northeastern on Feb. 22 and 24, Shannon collected three assists and was a +3 on the ice as BC topped the Huskies 7-2 and 3-1.
On Friday, Shannon notched two assists as the Eagles defeated Northeastern, 7-2, at Matthews Arena. He assisted on Ales Dolinar's second goal of the game, then set up Jeff Giuliano's game-winning goal. Each of his linemates had two goals on the night. On Sunday, Shannon added to his weekend total with an assist on Dolinar's game-winning goal in the first period of the 3-1 win at Kelley Rink.
For the season, Shannon has scored 23 points on eight goals and 15 assists. He is sixth on the team in scoring and is the fourth-highest freshman scorer in HOCKEY EAST.
Shannon's honor is the Boston College's seventh league honor of the year and the fifth Rookie of the Week nod. He joins classmates Ned Havern, Matti Kaltiainen (twice) and Dave Spina as first-year honorees.
Boston College is currently 18-14-2 overall (10-11-1 HOCKEY EAST) and will play New Hampshire in a home-and-home series on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3 to close out the regular season.
