Relays Have Strong Showing At BIG EAST Championships

UNIONDALE, N.J. - The Boston College women's swimming team had strong showings in the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay Friday evening at the BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Eagles stand in 10th place with 75 points following the second day of the competition. The University of Notre Dame is well ahead of the pack in the team competition having scored 555 points.
The women's 200-yard medley relay team turned in a season-best time in the race, following its ninth-place finish. The team of seniors Lauren Schwartz (Mount Laurel, N.J.), Alexis Kostopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.), junior Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Michelle Lane (Kentwood, Mich.) finished with a time of 1:48.27. The previous season-best time for Boston College was 1:49.84, coming against the University of Connecticut back November 17.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Schwartz, Suryoutomo, junior Nicole Duffy (Fairfax, Va.) and freshman Kathleen McCann (Walpole, Mass.) also turned in season-best time for Boston College. The Eagles placed 10th in the race, turning in a time of 7:43.70. The previous best time in the 800 came against Princeton University back on November 9, where the Eagles turned in time of 7:50.99.
