Men's Track Placed Ninth At New England Championships

BOSTON - The Boston College men's track and field team had a strong showing the All-New England Championships at the Boston University Armory Track, placing ninth out of 27 teams with a score of 24 points.
Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Michael McKenzie (Natick, Mass.), who had an incredible turnaround from the preliminary rounds to the finals. In the 800-meter run, McKenzie placed seventh in the preliminaries, but he came back in the finals to take home the victory. He finished the race with a time of 1:54.22. Junior Vernon Mickle (Bay Shore, N.Y.) placed seventh in the event, finishing with a time of 1:55.74, which is a season-best time for him.
Sophomore Byron Gartrell (Boston, Mass.) shattered his previous-best time in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday, as he finished third with a time of 8:26.45. His previous-best time came against New Hampshire and Vermont, where he finished the race with a time of 8:39.52. Junior Shawn Wallace (Wakefield, Mass.) had a strong showing in the one-mile run, as he finished seventh, out of 22 participants, in the one-mile run. His time of 4:12.86 was five seconds faster than he season-best time of 4:17.60.
The Eagles' 4x800-meter relay team earned the squad eight points by finishing second, turning in a time of 7:37.36. Sophomore Doug Goodwin just missed a season-best throw in the shot put, as he finished 11th with a mark of 48'04.75.
The men's indoor track and field team is back in action Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, at the ICAAAA Championships in Boston.
