Charlemont, Mass - The Boston College men's and women's ski teams competed at the Smith Carnival held at Berkshire East this past weekend.? The women's squad recorded a first place showing in the Giant Slalom and a second place mark in the Slalom, while the men earned third and fourth place showings, respectively.
The women's team rolled to victory on Saturday in the Giant Slalom.? The Eagles nearly competed a sweep of the top three spots, but instead settled for first, second and fourth on the racing of junior Lori Williams, senior Christina Gush and sophomore Erica Pylman.? In the Slalom the Eagles were not quite as dominant, but did come away with a solid second place finish.? Gush and Pylman imitated their second and fourth place efforts from the day before and sophomore Jennifer Runco added a tenth place mark in the Slalom, she finished eighth in the Giant Slalom on Saturday as well.? This weekend marks Williams' second Giant Slalom win at Berkshire East this season.? On January 20 at the UMass Carnival, Williams recorded her first Giant Slalom win in the season opener.
The men's team recorded fourth and third place finishes over the weekend in the Giant Slalom and Slalom at the Smith Carnival.? Sophomore Seth Therrien led the Eagles on Saturday with a tie for tenth place in the Giant Slalom.? Teammates, junior Barry Connolly and senior Michael Duran, were not far behind Therrien with 15th and 19th place showings on Saturday.? Sunday, the Eagles fared well enough to earn a podium finish in the Slalom event.? Duran and Connolly led the pack out of the gate with seventh and eight place marks.? Following that tandem were senior Hans Gustafson and sophomore Joe Lopez, who earned 15th and 29th, respectively.
Both Eagle squads are having successful seasons in the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference.? The women sit perched atop the conference standings with a comfortable lead over Brown University.? The men, fourth place, are within striking distance of third, a mere three points behind UMass.? Individually, the Eagles are also doing well in the conference ranks.? Gush is on top of the women's side and Williams is tied for third.? Pylman and Runco are in ninth and tenth, respectively, rounding out a top ten with four Eagles.? On the men's side, Therrien, Duran and Connolly are all highly ranked in tenth, thirteenth and sixteenth, respectively.
The Eagles will see action Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23, at the NCAA Eastern Regionals in Middlebury, Vermont.
