Women's Soccer Signs Seven To National Letters Of Intent

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With the signing of seven players for the 2002 season, Boston College head women's soccer coach Alison Foley and assistant coach Chris Hamblin have assembled one of the best recruiting classes in the program's history.
The signees include goalkeeper Kate Taylor (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), forwards Kate McGregor (Simsbury, Conn.), Kelly Lavery (Woodland Hills, Calif.), midfielder Ashley Hawkins (Basking Ridge, N.J.), defenders Lindsey McArdle (Boxford, Mass.), April Joy Millado (Canoga Park, Calif.) and Meghan Nadolski (Essex Junction, Vt.).
Taylor, who attends the University School of Milwaukee, was recently named Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Wisconsin and also a 2002 Parade magazine All-American. Her list of accomplishments include winning six Wisconsin state championships while playing for the Futbol Club of Milwaukee. In 2001, she played for the under-20 Futbol Club of Milwaukee that won the national championship. Taylor is a member of the under-19 United States National team.
McGregor, who attends Simsbury High School, is one of only two present high school players to be named All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on three-consecutive years. She is a two-time Parade magazine All-American (2000 and 2001) and two-time Connecticut High School Player of the Year recipient (1999 and 2000). McGregor was a member of the 2000 United State National team and now is a member of the under-19 national pool.
Lavery, who attends Chaminade Middle High School, has won five California club state championships while playing for four different teams. She also won two regional club championships while playing for the Valley United Stars. Her list of accomplishments also include winning eight-straight club league championships (1995-2002) and five-straight Surf Cup championships (1994-99). In 1998, she made it through the California state and regional pool to make the national pool.
Hawkins, who attends Ridge High School (same school BC teammate to-be Elyse Meredith attended), is a two-time NSCAA/adidas All-East selection. She has been a member of the Olympic Development Region I team the last two years. Over her fours years at Ridge, she has recorded 61 goals and dished out 41 assists. Hawkins was named player of the year by the New Jersey Star Ledger newspaper. She has New Jersey all-state player all four years.
McArdle, who attends Masconomet Regional High School, is a first-team Massachusetts' all-state and all-New England selection in 2001. She was a Cape Ann All-League player her freshman, junior and senior years along with being named Cape Ann League Player of the Year in 2001. McArdle was named all-scholastic by the Boston Globe and Boston Herald in 2001.
Millado, who attends Louisville High School, played for the Valley United Stars club team from 1994-2001, one of those years was with fellow Boston College signee Kelly Lavery. With her club team, she won three state championships, two regional championships and five league championships. Millado was a part of 50 major championship victories, while also being a part of 81-game undefeated streak during her eight years with her club team. She was also named the to United States Youth Soccer Association All-American team and was a member of the national pool from 1998-2001.
Nadolski, who attends Essex High School, has been a member of the Vermont Olympic Development team from 1996 through 2002. She was named first-team all-Free Press in 2000 and 2001, while being named honorable mention in 1999. Nadolski was named to the Vermont Soccer Club Association all-state team on three occasions (1999-2001).
To go along with seven recruits who signed letters of intent, Foley expects four more freshmen to join the 2002 squad.
The Eagles kick off the 2002 season at 12 p.m. Friday, August 30 against in-state rival Massachusetts at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
